TO CHECK IN:

1. chegar (arrive) e registrar-se (register) em um hotel ou aeroporto.

Ex: When we arrive at the airport we need to check in.

TO CHECK OUT: 

1. deixar o hotel, loja, mercado...

Ex: Your father need to check out of the hotel before 10 a.m.

TO CHECK someone / something OUT:

1. olhar cuidadosamente, ingestigar algo ou alguém.

Ex: The company checks out all the employees everyday.

2. olhar (informal).

Ex: Check out that crazy clothes.

PV: "TO CATCH UP"

Bom como vocês puderam perceber esse phrasal verb não é o nosso tão conhecido molho de tomate (Ketchup), mas a pronúncia é super parecida.
O nosso phrasal verb de hoje tem um sentido de:

1. alcançar fisicamente alguém (que está na sua frente).
Ex: Go on without me, I'll catch you up later. (Vá sem mim, te alcançarei mais tarde).

2. alcançar um mesmo padrão (de outra pessoa)
Ex: The company needs a few more money in order to catch up with its concurrent. (A empresa precisa um pouco mais de dinheiro para alcançar o seu concorrente).
